Grandma's Bread Pudding

I need to give a shout-out to my friend Allison. Her family puts on a fantastic corn maze every year complete with games and home-cooked goodies. I don't even LIKE bread pudding, and when I tasted their bread pudding I almost cried, it was THAT good.

Grandma's Bread Pudding
(Thank you Allison!!)

Ingredients:

8-10 slices dried out bread, butter sides and trim crust off
4 eggs
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups milk
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup golden raisins (optional)

Instructions:

Cut up bread into squares and layer in buttered 2 quart baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, beat 4 eggs, 2 egg yolks together and then add 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Set aside.

Heat in microwave 3 cups milk and 2/3 cup heavy cream until small bubbles form. Then gradually add to egg mixture while stirring very fast so eggs won't cook.

Pour over bread and layer more bread then pour milk and egg mixture.

Bake bread pudding in larger baking dish that has 1 inch of water in it or has 1 inch of water up the sides of the bread pudding mixture. (This helps it cook slowly.)

Bake 375 for 45 minutes. (I add 1/2 cup golden raisins.)

ENJOY!
